A little birthday birdie

I just love Pun Fun! I'm so glad my mom got it for my daughter! ; ) This is just a simple little birthday card. I stamped the little birdie in Stazon and colored her in with markers. I used my versamarker to color over her belly and embossed it with Iridescent Ice EP. (Click on the picture to see her sparkly belly.) I added some white grosgrain and a birthday sentiment. A cute little card if I do say so myself. LOL

Another birthday card

Today is Robert's (my ex-DH and now best friend) birthday. (He and my mom share a birthday. His mom and I share a name. Useless trivia for you this morning.) I made this for him. I know it's a little childish, but I think he'll like it. Men are, after all, just big kids. LOL This is the first filmstrip card I've made. I've seen lots of them, so I figured I give it a try. It's pretty self-explanatory, so I'll just list the supplies I used.

For my mom...Part 2.

Good Saturday morning! Today my kids and I are going to my mom's to celebrate her birthday (which is really tomorrow). We're having homemade tamales for lunch. YUM! This is her birthday card. It coordinates with her gift which I posted here yesterday. I used Julee's Mojo Monday sketch from last week for the layout. The DSP is Afternoon Tea. I love this stuff. Thank goodness I have another package left since the mini ends Monday. ;) I stamped the butterfly from Live Your Dream (another mini favorite) going off the corner of the sentiment panel. I stamped it again on a scrap of Very Vanilla and cut it out. I used my versamarker to outline it, and then I added Iridescent Ice EP. It's adhered with a mini glue dot in the middle of the body. I paper pierced the other corner. The 3 flowers just didn't look finished when I stamped them at the bottom of the sentiment. I remembered reading that yesterday's challenge over on SCS was to use brads in your stamping. Brads would be perfect in the middle of the flowers. Just one problem...I don't have any Earth Elements brads. I do have Bold Brights and Soft Subtles though. I decided that Real Red would be the best bet. I covered the tops with a mini glue dot, dunked them in my Iridescent Ice EP, and heated them. Voila! No more Real Red brads...more Ruby Red. I think they look great! :)

For my mom

My mom's birthday is Sunday. She told me last night that she is trying to forget. Nope, not going to happen. I already made her a present. ;) She has been asking me for a name frame since Christmas. I finally made one for her. I am extremely pleased with it! O.k., I LOVE IT! :) I only had to stamp the name part twice. LOL The first one smeared. AAACK! On the second one, an ink blob appeared at the top of the "S". I didn't need to start over again...it's just an opportunity for embellishment! :) I put a Pretties Kit flower with a half-pearl right over it. Tah dah! No more ink blob! I inked the stamps from Live Your Dream with my markers. I outlined the butterfly and the flowers with a darker color. I really like the way they pop. The "Est. 2007" is computer-generated and punched out with my 3/4" circle punch. I layered it on a 1" punch and then on the Designer Label punch. I also layered my ribbons. I punched holes in the label piece with my rectangle hand-held punch and ran the Groovy Guava ribbon through it. I really enjoyed creating this for my mom. I hope she loves it! I guess I'll find out on Saturday when we head over to her house. Her husband (with some "help" from my kids LOL) is going to make homemade tamales! YUM!

Two...two...two challenges in one!

I wanted to participate in yesterday's color challenge and today's sketch challenge on SCS. I was a bit leary about the colors - Taken with Teal, Wild Wasabi and Whisper White, but I tried it anyway. I think I like it now. I loved the sketch. This card is my take on both. It's also my very first square card. :) Now I just have to find an envelope. LOL

Are diamonds really a girl's best friend?

I will pass on the diamonds...just give me $$$ for stampin' stuff! LOL

I recently participated in a Technique Page swap with some fellow members of an online group, Utah Divas International. I received all the pages back today, so I think it's safe to post one of mine. (Our swap hostess, Sara, went above and beyond by making title labels for all the pages. The labels coordinate with the pages! Isn't she the sweetest?!) One of the techniques I did was Faux Diamonds. I love this! It is really easy and makes everything so sparkly...including the dog! LOL ;) You can get a closer look at the sparkle by clicking on the picture.

~Apply Versamark ink to the card stock. It can be over an image (make sure it's dry) or you can apply it to a blank piece of cardstock to use as a background layer.
~Sprinkle Iridescent Ice embossing powder on your Versamark-covered cardstock.
~Shake off the excess powder.
~Heat set with your heat tool. (Make sure you don't overheat it. You can tell it's done when the colors brighten.)

That's it! Easy peasy! Try it and let me know how much fun you have putting diamonds on everything!

Technique Tuesday

I was browsing the Resources section at Splitcoaststampers and came across Faux Silk. I have never tried this before so I thought I'd give it a shot. My first attempt ended up in the garbage can. LOL I used a small detail stamp, and it just looked terrible! I decided to go with the leaves in Embrace Life. It seemed to work wonderfully on the cards in the gallery. ;) I stamped the leaves three times on tissue paper. Then I colored them in with a marker. I covered my Very Vanilla base with my SU! glue stick, and then adhered the tissue paper to it. I made sure it was stuck really well and trimmed to size. I decided to cut the image panel into 3 separate panels. I put those panels on one piece of Chocolate Chip cardstock. I tied some Chocolate Chip polytwill ribbon around the Chocolate Chip panel then adhered it to my Kraft card base. (Hmm...I seem to be craving some chocolate now. LOL) The sentiment was stamped on Very Vanilla (I stamped "embrace" first, cleaned the stamp and then stamped "life" underneath) and then punched it with the Large Oval punch. It is layered on a Chocolate Chip Key Tag punch. I think I'm going to go find some chocolate now. ;)

A box in a bag

Is this not the cutest bag? I found one of these on Nancy Riley's blog, iStamp. Her project led me to Diana Gibbs' blog, Stampin' with Di. I had to make one for myself. Diana calls it a "box in a bag". :) Here is a link to the instructions. Mine is made with Berry Bliss DSP. I also added a 3X3 gift card to go with it. My embellishment is a 5-petal punch Purely Pomegranate flower topped with a Berry Bliss DSP Boho Blossom punch flower topped with a Fresh Favorites II button. I threaded the button with a sliver of cardstock. The "for you" tag on the note card is from Fresh Cuts and is stamped on a word window punched piece of Berry Bliss DSP. I just cut the end off to match the cardfront. I can't wait to fill up the bag with something fun and give it away! :)

Pizza anyone?

I saw a fabulous little box back in April on Jen Del Muro's blog and added it to my favorites. I never got around to actually making one. (Sound familiar?) Anyway, I checked out the Demo Challenge over on SCS on Friday and this was it...make a mini pizza box like Jen's! WooHoo! I decided I wanted to put some die-cut blooms on the top, so my colors came from those. I used a Build-a-Brad to keep the blooms all together. There is a piece of the same DSP in the BAB. I used my 1/2" circle punch for that. I bent the petals up on the blooms to give them some dimension. This was a really fun, quick project. It could be used as a gift box for all kinds of things...note cards, a gift card, jewelry, candy, etc.. Isn't it just darling? Here's the link to Jen's instructions so you can make one of your own. Elegant Fresh Cuts

Good Saturday morning!

I have had this Basic Gray cardstock collecting dust for quite a while now. (Not literally...all my cardstock stash is hidden away from light and dust in a filing cabinet. LOL) I decided now was the time to use it. Stop the hoarding! ;) I don't usually do elegant, so I figured I'd give it a shot. I think this would be a nice wedding card. I stamped the collage stamp (LOVE it!) from the sneak peek set, Fresh Cuts, on a piece of Whisper White. I stamped the leaves in Basic Black Classic Ink (stamped off twice) on a piece of Whisper White. I stamped the sentiment right on top of that. I used my Designer Label punch and a frame from the Styled Silver HPH. It's attached to the Basic Black panel with Basic Gray taffeta ribbon and then adhered to a Basic Gray card base.

Happy Flowers

Yippee! It's Friday! This week sure went by quickly. I am sharing yet another card with felt flowers. Don't you just love them? I do! LOL

My very glittery "h" is from the Sticky Cuts Letters. I have to admit that I hadn't even opened the package until today. *gasp* (I am trying not to hoard so much.) I love how well the cosmo fine glitter adheres to them! They are made from Sticky Strip. This stuff isn't going anywhere. :) My sentiment panel is up on dimensionals. The "appy" is from the Polka Dots & Paisley stamp set which will be retiring on August 10th. My felt flowers are held together with an Ice Circle Rhinestone brad.

More Flower Fusion

I just love these felt flowers! (Have I said that before? LOL) Today's card is a simple one. I stamped "enjoy" on a Very Vanilla panel in chocolate chip ink. I used a silver brad to attach some felt flowers to the "o". That panel is mounted on old olive which is mounted on chocolate chip. The card base is River Rock. I used 5/8" chocolate chip grosgrain around the bottom of the sentiment panel. This would make a great masculine card just by omitting the flowers. I really like the look of river rock, old olive and chocolate chip together. I may just have to make another card tonight. :)

Pumpkin Fresh Cuts

I received my sneak peek order on Tuesday. Yippee! The Fresh Cuts stamp set and Fresh Cut notes are fantastic! I made this card in under 10 minutes...and that included mounting the stamps! I love this set! I am so glad I broke down and purchased it! I stamped the large collage stamp over the entire notecard and then punched out the petals. I used my 5-petal punch for the white flower behind the notecard, and I made dots all around the petals with my pumpkin pie marker. I also used a pumpkin pie felt flower from Flower Fusion and stuck them all together with a rhinestone brad from the Pretties kit. I adhered a piece of pumpkin pie cardstock to the inside of the front cover and tied some pumpkin pie ribbon around the top. I used another one of the stamps in the set to embellish the front and back of the envelope. That's it. Easy peasy! Don't you just love it? I do!

UDI Challenge

I belong to an online group of Stampin' Up! demos called Utah Divas International. It is such a wonderful group of women. If you ever need anything, they are there. I can't say enough good things about them! :)

Anyway, we were issued a challenge to make a swing card. I used Beate's tutorial and came up with this card. I used the Daisy Dash wheel inked with Versamark for the background. The stamped flower and sentiment are from Enjoy Every Moment. The felt flowers are from Flower Fusion. (I love these things! I hope there are more in the Fall/Winter 2008 catalog in some more colors!) The brad in the flower centers is a Fire Circle Rhinestone brad. The ribbon is the chocolate chip polytwill from the Occassions mini catalog. Beate's tutorial is very well written and easy to follow. Try one for yourself!

A Onesie for Declan

Happy Monday! (Now there's an oxymoron if I ever saw one! LOL) This is for a brand new little boy named Declan Michael. He was born on Tuesday, June 10th. Welcome to the world! Congratulations, Alicia & Glenn!

I'm sure you have all seen Lauren Meader's adorable little onesies by now, but, just in case you haven't, here's her tutorial. It really was very easy to make. Her tutorial is easy to follow. The only thing I had to do over was the scallops. Her punch has a grid in it that marks the halfway point, and mine doesn't. Hmmm...I wonder why. Anyway, just make sure you punch at least half a circle for the scalloped trim. You'll know what I'm talking about when you try it. :)

Thinking of You

Happy Sunday! I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend!

I started this card for the Featured Stamper's Challenge over on SCS, but didn't look closely enough at the card I chose to CASE. Denidill's card was for a sketch challenge, SC161, so it shouldn't have been used for the FS challenge. That's alright. I still like my card. :) I pulled the colors for the card from my package of Die-cut Blooms (that I just opened today). The Summer Picnic DSP has the same colors in it. Yay! I need to use that stuff up since the mini catalog ends on the 30th. I made my own background with strips of scraps in the same colors. I threw in the Tempting Turquiose strips for good measure. (There is also a bigger strip of it on the card, but it's hiding under the flower. LOL) I used my Itty Bitty Backgrounds stamp set for the dots on the sentiment strip. The sentiment is from a retired hostess set, Warmest Regards.

Speaking of retired sets, Stampin' Up! released its retiring list today. These stamp sets will no longer be available after August 10th. Call your demonstrator so you don't miss out on them. (If you don't have a demonstrator, call me! :) )

Happy Flag Day

I found this little tidbit on Wikepedia. In the United States, Flag Day is celebrated on June 14. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened that day by resolution of the Second Continental Congress in 1777. In honor of Flag Day, I decided to use red, white and blue for my card. The layout is Beate's WSC52. The knot in the ribbon is for Jeanne's LSC172. :) I finally opened my Punches Plus Classy Brass template to paper pierce around the star. Can you believe I didn't even use a stamp on this one? *GASP*

More Home Decor

Happy Friday the 13th! I hope you all are having a bad-luck free day! I happen to think that Friday the 13th is a good day. Two of my friends gave birth on Friday the 13th. (not today! LOL)

On to creating of another kind. ;) Here's another home decor item (I posted a picture frame yesterday). It's a candle I found for just $1.00 at Jo-Ann's. It smells so yummy...just like strawberries! It looked so sad squashed in that bin with all those other candle tins that I brought it home with me and fixed it up. I used Summer Picnic DSP around the bottom and as one of the mats on the lid. I also used Real Red on the lid. The strawberry is from the Tart & Tangy set. ~Both the DSP and the stamp set are only available until June 30th.~ The strawberry stamp was colored with Glorious Green and Real Red markers and stamped on Whisper White cardstock. I stamped the stem part again and cut it out for a little dimension. I punched out the strawberry with my 1 3/8" circle punch and matted it on a Real Red scallop circle. I used my coluzzle to cut out the Real Red cardstock and DSP circles for the lid. The ribbon is wrapped around the lid and adhered with sticky strip. I made the bow by making a loop with white grosgrain and then wrapping another much smaller piece around the middle of the loop. I used mini glue dots to adhere the bow to the lid. Opportunity for Embellishment

I love making cards. I even give some of them away. ;) Besides cards, I love to make home decor, gifts and other things with paper. Today I made a frame. It doesn't have a picture in it, though. Instead, it has patterned paper and stamped art. Stampin' Up! has some really great Designer Series Papers. The paper I used today is called Afternoon Tea and the stamp set is Live Your Dream. Both are only available until June 30th.

I started out by measuring the openings in my frame and cutting Chocolate Chip cardstock to size for the mats. I then used my 1 1/4" square punch to punch 24 squares out of my DSP. I lined up all my squares and started gluing. I tried and tried to get those squares straight, but they just would not cooperate. Instead of pitching everything and starting over (which I thought about LOL), I decided to try something else. There are no mistakes, you know, only opportunities for embellishment. :) I cut 1/4" strips out of one of the pieces of Afternoon Tea, and I used them to "frame" my squares. Voila! Now you can't tell how crooked they are...were. ;) What do you think of my home decor? I hope you like it as much as I do!

A Sketch Challenge with Whimsy

Here's a pretty spring card for today's Sketch Challenge 180. (Wow! I have a lot of catching up to do! LOL) I made a nice springy card so that I can pretend we're having spring weather here. We really only have about 2 days of spring, if that. We go straight to summer! It has been in the 90s for weeks now. The other day it was 98! YUCK...but I will take the heat over snow anyday! ;) I just guestimated the measurements for the panels. The largest panel is 2 3/4" square. The flower panel mat is 3" X 2". I reduced each of the smaller panels by 1/4". The flower panel has been distressed with the cutter kit, and then So Saffron ink was daubered all over.

A Real So Regal Challenge

Happy Tuesday! It's Color Challenge day over at Splitcoaststampers. Today's combination is Real Red, So Saffron and Regal Rose. I still have some So Saffron Long Notes so I started with one of those. I had planned on using a piece of So Saffron DSP from the Palette of Prints (remember those?) layered on the Real Red mat, but it just didn't do it for me. I decided to use Whisper White instead. I stamped the flowers from Classic Backgrounds in Regal Rose. I don't know if it's visible in the photo, but I colored in all the centers with my So Saffron marker. I used Regal Rose ink to stamp the sentiment, too, which is from Enjoy Every Moment. The flowers are layered 5-Petal Flower punches. I stamped the star from Classic Backgrounds in So Saffron on Whisper White and punched out my flower's center with the Boho Blossoms punch from the middle of the star. The flowers are held together with a silver brad. I used the corner rounder on one side of all the layers to mimic the Long Note. Some Regal Rose ribbon finishes it off nicely.

A surprise technique

I have been trying to participate in some of the challenges over on SCS lately. Mondays are technique challenges. Today's is a Surprise Pop-up card. You can find the tutorial here. This was a new card type for me. I was excited to try something new. I am really pleased with my card. I think it's really cute. :) The lion is stamped once in Creamy Caramel and then again in Creamy Caramel and Cameo Coral. I cut the mane out and popped it up on a dimensional. I drew in some grass with Sage Shadow and Mellow Moss. I used a button from Fresh Favorites II for the sun. This was really much easier than I thought. Give it a try!

Father's Day

YLM (Cindy) is today's Featured Stamper over on SCS. This is the card I chose to CASE. The rules for the FS challenge are to pick a card and change at least 2 things. I used her layout but added more layers, I changed the colors, the stamp set and the embellishments. I also used my crimper instead of the Cuttlebug for the background layer in order to stay all SU!. I inked up my stamp with Versamark and then Chocolate Chip Classic Ink in order to emboss it since I don't have any craft inks...yet. :) My son said the green was too "fruity" for a boy card. LOL So I showed the cardstock to his father. He said it was o.k. to use. I also asked him if he was afraid of ribbon. He said he wasn't. It's a good thing beacuse the card was getting ribbon anyway. It's brown, so that's masculine, right? ;)

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. My kids start their day camp tomorrow at our local county park. My daughter told me I need to get a "real job" so I can have summers off with them. I just need to win the lottery. :)
